Seth Allen led the Hokies with 18 points and Zach LeDay registered his seventh double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds, along with four blocked shots ... Tech cut the lead to just six points early in the second half, but could get no closer.
Series Against The Mountaineers
This is the 79th meeting all-time between the two border rivals, in a series that dates back to 1921 … WVU leads the all-time series, 48-30 … WVU won the most recent meeting, 82-51, in Morgantown last season … Tech has won the last two meetings in Blacksburg, including an 87-82 victory in Cassell Coliseum in the 2013-14 season … Tech is 17-12 in home games in the series and 16-9 in games played in Cassell Coliseum … This series has been played not only in Blacksburg and Morgantown, but also in Bluefield, W.Va., Fayetteville, W.Va., Charleston, W.Va., Richmond and Roanoke and even Landover, Maryland … The Hokies are 39-54 all-time against current members of the Big 12 Conference.
Clarke Out Indefinitely
Freshman forward Chris Clarke suffered a fracture to the fifth metatarsal in his right foot and will have surgery ... The injury occurred working out during the Christmas break ... Clarke had started 10 of the first 12 games of the season and is averaging 10.5 points and 7.4 rebounds per game.
Doubling Our Pleasure
With his 10 point, 11 rebound performance against St. Joseph’s, Zach LeDay recorded his seventh double-double of the season, in just 12 games ... The last Hokies to record seven double-doubles in a single season was Jeff Allen, with 15 double-doubles in the 2010-11 season.
Tough, Busy Week
While most of America looks at this time of year for some rest and time off, the Hokies take a totally 180 degree look at this week ... Beginning today, the Hokies play three games in the next six days, two against nationally-ranked teams and all three at Cassell Coliseum ... Then, after a few days off, the Hokies play their first ACC road game of the season at defending national champion, Duke.
Selling Out the Cassell
Today’s game against West Virginia is the first sellout of the season for the Hokies, but not the last ... The North Carolina game on Jan. 24, is also a sellout ... Monday’s game against Virginia has a very limited number of tickets still available and could become another sellout in Cassell Coliseum.
