GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech forward Kerry Blackshear Jr., has been named the ACC Rookie of the Week for the week ending Dec. 13 2015, as selected by a 15-member media panel.
Blackshear, a freshman from Orlando, Florida, put together his two best games of the season in a road win over Radford and a home court win over Lamar. In the 74-65 victory at Radford on Wednesday night, Blackshear scored a career-high 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds in a career-high 32 minutes of action. He was 6-of-9 from the field. In Sunday’s 88-53 win over Lamar, Blackshear recorded his first career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds in 23 minutes of action. He was 5-of-8 from the floor.
This is the first time this season that a Hokie has earned a weekly ACC honor. This is the first time a Tech freshman has earned the honor since Justin Bibbs was named ACC Rookie of the Week for the week ending Dec. 29, 2014.
Blackshear has appeared in all 10 games for the Hokies this season. He is averaging 6.3 points and 4.8 rebounds and is shooting .538 from the field.
The Hokies are off during the week due to final exams, but return to the court on Saturday, Dec. 19. Tech will take on Grambling State at 6 p.m. in Cassell Coliseum.
