Hokies sign Sy to NLI
Oak Hill product to enroll in Fall 2016

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Virginia Tech head men’s basketball coach Buzz Williams has announced the signing of Khadim Sy to a National Letter of Intent. Sy will enroll at Virginia Tech in the fall of 2016.

“We are excited to add an Oak Hill alum to the Hokie family for the first time in over 30 years,” Williams said. “Khadim has been coached at an elite level since he arrived in the states and fills a need we had in our second class. Throughout the two years we have recruited him, he has continued to improve at a consistent rate as a player, and I believe his ceiling is very high. More importantly, he has the character and work ethic that we want those in our program to be about on and off the floor.”

Khadim Sy (pronounced hah-DEEM SEE) is a 6-10, 245 lbs. post player from Dakar, Senegal. He plays at Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia. Last season, he averaged 6.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game off the bench for Oak Hill, as the team finished second nationally with a 47-1 record. This season as a starter, he is averaging 11.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocked shots per game after two games. Sy is rated as a three-star recruit by ESPN.com, Scout.com and Yahoo.com. ESPN.com has him as the No. 10 player in Virginia. He played last summer for Upward Stars AAU team.

“I'm so happy to be a Hokie today,” Sy said. “Oak Hill has been my home for three years; now Blacksburg will be my home for the next four. I can't wait to play for coach Williams and his staff and compete in the ACC, the best basketball conference in America.”

The Hokies open the 2015-16 regular season on Saturday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. against Alabama State in Cassell Coliseum.
