Virginia Tech announces new incentives for students
Changes affect basketball lottery; rewards program unveiled

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech Department of Athletics announced Friday that it was offering new attendance incentives for students beginning with the upcoming 2015-16 basketball season.

Tech will begin implementing Gobbler Student Rewards that will allow students to checkin to all Hokie athletics home events to earn points toward prizes. It is a downloadable app available for Apple- and Android-based phones. Prizes include Virginia Tech Nike gear, gift cards and coupons to First & Main stores and restaurants, and more.

Students can download the app for free from the Apple Store on iPhone or Android Media Center.

Students also can expect changes to the lottery system for single-game basketball tickets this season and should be aware of the new policies regarding attendance.

Students who win the lottery but do not use their ticket to the game potentially could miss the opportunity to attend future home games during the season. Students will be provided with reminder emails after the first and second non-attended game. After the third non-attended game, the student will be ineligible to win the lottery for the remainder of the season.

Registration for the lottery occurs at various dates throughout the season based on the university’s schedule and closes approximately three days before the game. Students who sign up for the lottery and win are guaranteed seats in Cassell Coliseum. Student lottery winners must print their tickets and present them at the Cassell entrance along with their student IDs.
