Bibbs named state's top rookie
Hokie freshman honored by VaSID

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Virginia Tech men’s basketball player Justin Bibbs has been named University Division Men’s Basketball State Rookie of the Year by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID). The annual awards, which are selected by sports information and athletic communication professionals from around the Commonwealth, were announced Tuesday. The University Division covers all 14 Division I institutions in Virginia.

Bibbs, a freshman from Dayton, Ohio, was second on team in scoring at 11.4 points per game, and second in assists at 1.8 per game. He had 18 games of double-figure scoring, including four games of 20-or-more points. The ACC Rookie of the Week for Dec. 28, Bibbs shot 41.3 percent from three-point range this season.

William & Mary senior Marcus Thornton was named State Player of the Year, while Virginia head coach Tony Bennett was named the State Coach of the Year.
