Buzz Williams - A Look Back at Year One
Video reflects on Williams' first year in Blacksburg

On March 24, 2014, Virginia Tech officially welcomed Buzz Williams as the new head men’s basketball coach. In the year that followed, a new sense of energy arrived to the program and Cassell Coliseum.

Many of the changes were tangible. Attendance at Hokie basketball games increased by nearly 20 percent. Once declining season ticket sales headed in the other direction, as sales were up 19 percent this past season.

The overall fan experience at games was enhanced, spurred not only by the arrival of Williams, but by numerous other enhancements. A new tiered pricing structure for ticket sales, to go along with new investments in the sound system, lighting and fan engagement, Cassell Coliseum is quickly heading back onto the list of top home-court advantages in all of collegiate basketball. To top off the inaugural campaign and send the team into the off-season on a positive note, the Hokies won their first ACC Tournament game since 2012.

Other changes were more subjective. The ownership taken by the Virginia Tech students, alumni and the Hokie Nation created a new level of excitement surrounding the program at every turn. And next season looks to increase on all these elements.

The first year was exciting and a lot of fun. Join us for what is most definitely, an exhilarating future.
