CLEMSON, S.C. – Virginia Tech lost to Clemson, 75, 54, in Littlejohn Coliseum on Saturday afternoon in ACC men’s basketball action.
The Tigers made eight of their first 11 shots in the game and jumped out to a 21-4 with 12:57 remaining in the first half, a lead which the Hokies could not overcome. Clemson led 41-22 at the intermission, shooting 48.5 percent from the field in the first half.
“I thought they were really good,” Hokies’ head coach Buzz Williams said. “Obviously, they started both halves in great fashion. The moxie they played with, their confidence level, I thought they were dominating from start to finish.”
Malik Müller connected on a career-high five three-point field goals on 11 attempts and led the Hokies with 17 points and four rebounds. Adam Smith added 13 points for Tech. This is the second consecutive game that Müller has led the Hokies with 17 points, and the fourth time in the last six games that he has registered double-figures for the Hokies. He has made eight three-pointers in the two games this week for the Hokies
With the loss, Tech falls to 10-15 overall and 2-10 in conference play, while the Tigers improve to 15-10 overall and 7-6 in ACC action. This is the only meeting of the season between the two schools.
The Hokies return to action on Wednesday night, as they travel to Coral Gables to play the Hurricanes. The game, from the BankUnited Center tips at 7 p.m., and will be shown on regional sports networks. Tech plays at NC State next Saturday, before returning home on Feb. 25, to face nationally-ranked Duke.
