Hokie coaches to participate in Autism Awareness program
Men's basketball staff to wear Autism Speaks pins during Florida State game

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech head men’s basketball coach Buzz Williams and his staff will wear blue Autism Speaks puzzle piece pins during Saturday’s game against Florida State in Cassell Coliseum. The pins are part of “Coaches Powering Forward for Autism,” a national program to promote awareness and support of Autism Speaks, the world’s leading autism science and advocacy organization.

The “Coaches Powering Forward for Autism” program was established to increase awareness for autism, throughout the February 6-8, 2015 basketball game weekend. The program was created after NCAA coaches Pat Skerry and Tom Herrion, whose sons are both diagnosed with autism, embarked on a mission in 2014 to raise awareness and advocate for the needs of families and individuals affected by autism.

Autism Speaks is dedicated to funding research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a cure for autism; increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders; and advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families. Autism Speaks is proud of what has been accomplished and looks forward to continued successes in the years ahead.

This year, Autism Speaks hopes to fuel even greater awareness and generate much needed funds to support the fastest growing public health disorder in the world – currently affecting 1 in every 68 children in the U.S. For more information on Coaches Powering Forward for Autism, please logo on to: www.autismspeaks.org/coachpower For More information on Autism Speaks, log on to: http://www.autismspeaks.org/
