Hokies return to Cassell Coliseum to host No. 8/9 Notre Dame

Virginia Tech returns to Cassell Coliseum on Thursday night for the first time since Jan. 3, as they begin a three-game homestand against No. 8/9 Notre Dame. The game will tip-off at 7 p.m. and will be shown on regional sports networks.

About Tonight’s Game

The Hokies enter tonight’s game 8-9 overall and 0-4 in ACC action … Notre Dame is 17-2 overall and 5-1 in conference play … Notre Dame is ranked eighth in the AP poll and ninth in the coaches poll ... This is the Hokies’ first home game since Jan. 3.

Last Time Out: 15/16 UNC 68, VT 53

The Hokies lost a hard-fought contest at No. 15/16 North Carolina, 68-53, in the Smith Center on Sunday night ... Adam Smith led the Hokies with 11 points and Shane Henry added 10 points and nine rebounds ... The Hokies played the game without leading scorer Justin Bibbs, who suffered a concussion during practice leading up to the game.

Series Against the Fighting Irish

This will be just the sixth meeting between the two schools, in a series that began in 1973 ... The Hokies are 1-4 all-time against the Fighting Irish … Tech has lost the last four meetings in the series, most recently a 70-63 loss in South Bend last season … Tech is 0-2 against Notre Dame in home games and 0-4 in conference games, in both Big East and ACC games … This is the only meeting between the two schools this season.

Virginia, Duke Games Sold Out

The Hokies’ home games against Virginia on Sunday and Duke on Feb. 25 are now officially sellouts ... These games mark Tech’s first sellouts since the final home game of the 2011-12 season ... Tonight’s game and Tuesday’s game against Pittsburgh have a limited number of tickets remaining.
