Bibbs earns Rookie of the Week honors
Freshman guard honored by ACC media panel

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech guard Justin Bibbs has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week, while Syracuse senior center Rakeem Christmas earned ACC Player of the Week honors. The honors were selected by a select media panel.

Bibbs, a freshman from Dayton, Ohio, is the first Tech player to be honored this season. He continued his strong early-season play for Virginia Tech last week, scoring 20 points to lead the Hokies to an 87-74 win over VMI last Monday night. Bibbs was 6-of-10 from the field and 8-of-10 from the line in the win. On Saturday night, Bibbs scored 13 points to go along with six rebounds and four assists in an 87-65 win over Presbyterian.

The Hokies’ leading scorer, Bibbs has scored in double figures in nine of Virginia Tech’s 12 games and is second in scoring among ACC freshmen.

The Hokies return to action on Tuesday afternoon, as they travel to West Virginia for a 2 p.m. game televised nationally by ESPNU. Tech opens the 2014-15 ACC schedule on Saturday, as they host Christmas and the Syracuse Orange in Cassell Coliseum. Game time is noon and will be broadcast by the ACC Network.
