The Fan will continue to carry all Virginia Tech football and men’s basketball game broadcasts, plus ancillary programs, including weekly “Tech Talk Live!” shows featuring Virginia Tech head football coach Frank Beamer and men’s basketball coach Buzz Williams. The new agreement extends WJFK-FM’s current affiliation with the Hokies through the end of the 2018 season.
"We're thrilled to continue our partnership with Virginia Tech football and men's basketball,” WJFK-FM Program Director Chris Kinard said. “The Hokies have a large and passionate fan base in the Washington, D.C., area. With marquee ACC and NCAA matchups in both sports, and the leadership of Frank Beamer and Buzz Williams, Virginia Tech sports are truly a marquee collegiate property in the Mid-Atlantic region."
In addition to Virginia Tech sports broadcasts, 106.7 The Fan is the radio home of the Washington Nationals, the Washington Capitals and other D.C.-sports programming. The station’s 25,000-watt FM signal blankets Washington and all of Northern Virginia.
“This is a win for everyone involved,” said Virginia Tech Director of Athletics Whit Babcock. “The National Capital Region is home to our largest alumni base and we are pleased to have a radio presence with a station as powerful as WJFK in that area. Extending this relationship will continue to serve our fan base well.”
The Virginia Tech IMG Sports Network consists of radio and television affiliates that cover the Commonwealth of Virginia and several neighboring states. Virginia Tech’s radio network is one of the most expansive and successful within IMG Audio, the nation’s largest independent sports radio network producing nearly 30,000 hours of intercollegiate sports programming each year.
