New ticket structure announced; No price increase for Hokie basketball
With new structure, 35 percent of all available seats to feature reduced prices

BLACKSBURG, Va. – In appreciation of the continued support of the Hokie Nation, the Virginia Tech Athletics Department has announced fan-friendly specials and innovative changes in the structure of ticket pricing in Cassell Coliseum for the upcoming season.

With the new ticket structure, approximately 35 percent of the tickets available will be at a price lower than last season. No ticket in the arena will be more expensive than last year.

The new structure identifies four distinct ticket sections in the arena. The primary, high-demand areas will be labeled “The Paint” and will have season tickets available for $495, or $445 for faculty/staff. The mid-range areas will be known as “The Top of the Key” and will be priced at $360, and the upper regions of Cassell Coliseum will be tagged “Beyond the Arc” and will carry a price of just $199 for a season’s seat.

Another of the new incentives is the Early HokieBird Special. Fans who take advantage of this and order season tickets by the August 1, 2014 deadline will receive an invitation to a “Meet the Team” event and a promo code for 10% off in the official Virginia Tech Athletics online team store. Also, if fans purchase season tickets during this special, they could win one of the following: 1) A basketball used in the first game of the Buzz Williams Era, autographed by Coach Williams 2) A 2014-15 autographed team schedule poster or 3) Two courtside seats for one game this season (subject to availability).

“Even with all of the energy and excitement surrounding our basketball program right now, we felt it best to go against the grain and not raise any season ticket prices this year in appreciation of our fans, donors, students and alumni,” Director of Athletics Whit Babcock said. “In fact, we lowered season ticket prices in 35% of the Coliseum. We need to get Cassell rocking again. It’s a tremendous home court advantage when it’s full. Hopefully, there is a price point now that appeals to every Hokie.”

The Hokies announced the hiring of new head basketball coach Buzz Williams in March and has witnessed a tremendous increase in fan excitement in the program in the interim. The “Introductory Press Conference” in Cassell Coliseum on March 24 witnessed a large, boisterous crowd of Hokie basketball fans, who enthusiastically welcomed Buzz and his wife, Corey, to Blacksburg. It is believed that this new ticket structure, in combination with new fan incentives and the new coaching staff, will further expand the excitement and spark increased attendance at home games.

Virginia Tech will welcome Miami, Virginia, Florida State, Syracuse, Georgia Tech, Duke, Pittsburgh, Boston College and Notre Dame to Cassell Coliseum this season. The non-conference schedule will be released later this summer by the ACC office.

Last season, Virginia Tech installed new, high-definition videoboards in each end zone, while addtional plans call for a new state-of-the-art sound system; all aimed to enhance fan enjoyment and interaction during games.
