Virginia Tech at Notre Dame Game Notes

Virginia Tech will play Notre Dame in South Bend on Sunday night. The game, televised nationally on ESPNU, will tip-off at 6 p.m. in Purcell Pavilion.

About Tonight’s Game

The Hokies are 8-8 on the season and 1-3 in ACC action.

The Fighting Irish are 10-7 overall and 1-3 in the ACC after a 74-66 loss at Maryland on Wednesday night.

The Irish lead the all-time series, 3-1.

Clemson 56, VT 49

The Hokies lost to Clemson, 56-49, in Cassell Coliseum on Wednesday night.

Devin Wilson led all scorers with 14 points for the Hokies.

Ben Emelogu and Joey van Zegeren added 11 each for the Hokies.

Christian Beyer came off the bench to lead the Hokies with seven rebounds.

Scoring 1,000

With his first three-pointer in the loss to #2/2 Syracuse, Jarell Eddie became the 44th player in school history to score 1,000 career points.

Eddie currently has 1,016 points at Virginia Tech and is 43rd in career scoring for the Hokies.

Game No. 2,500

The Clemson game was the 2,500th game in Virginia Tech men’s basketball history.

The First VT-ND Meeting

In the first-ever meeting between the two schools, the Hokies defeated Notre Dame, 92-91, in overtime to win the 1973 NIT Championship in Madison Square Garden. The Fighting Irish were coached that season by tonight’s honoree, Richard “Digger” Phelps.

The Hokies return to Cassell Coliseum on Wednesday night to face Wake Forest. The game, televised by regional sports networks, will tip-off at 7 p.m.
