The Hokies defeated rival West Virginia, 87-82, in Cassell Coliseum on Tuesday afternoon in front of a national television audience on ESPN.
Ben Emelogu, making just his second collegiate appearance, scored 22 points and Adam Smith added 19 points in the win. Devin Wilson scored 16 points and had four assists and Jarell Eddie scored 10 points in the win.
Youth Leads
Tech’s top three scorers in the win over West Virginia, Ben Emelogu (22 pts.), Adam Smith (19 pts.) and Devin Wilson (16 pts.) have played a combined six games at Virginia Tech.
A Young Captain
James Johnson has named freshman Ben Emelogu a captain for the 2013-14 season.
Beecher Honored
Former Tech standout Bobby Beecher is being inducted into the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame tonight.
Smart Guys
Jarell Eddie and Christian Beyer were named to the 2012-13 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Men’s Basketball Team. It was Eddie’s second year on the team and the first season for Beyer.
Third in Six
Tonight marks the Hokies’ third game in the first six days of the 2013-14 college basketball season.
