BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech head men’s basketball coach James Johnson has announced the signings of Justin Bibbs, Jalen Hudson and T.J. Lang to National Letters of Intent.

“I am really happy about this entire class,” Johnson said. “It gives us depth in the back court and gives us guys that can play multiple positions. We want to play an attacking style on offense and defense and this class will give us a lot of guys that can do a lot of different things on the court.

“This is a great group of young men that are outstanding people both on and off the court. They come from winning backgrounds and winning programs, much like this season’s freshman class. We feel good about the class. If you are trying to improve in the ACC, you have to put multiple good recruiting classes together and we feel that we have accomplished that.”

Bibbs is a 6-5, 205 lbs. guard from Dayton, Ohio who plays scholastically at the nationally renowned Monteverde Academy in Montverde, Fla. Bibbs is ranked No. 130 nationally by 247Sports.com and No. 142 nationally by Rivals. ESPN ranks Bibbs the No. 38 shooting guard nationally, while 247Sports ranked him the No. 34 shooting guard in the country. Scout.com has Bibbs as a four-star recruit and as the No. 23 shooting guard in the country, while the other services list him with three stars.

“Justin is an athletic wing that can score the basketball in multiple ways,” Johnson said. “He is very good with the ball. He is a good passer, he rebounds his position extremely well and he has a college-ready body. He plays for Montverde, a nationally-recognized program that plays against top competition night in and night out.”

Hudson is a 6-5, 190 lbs. guard from St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio, the same program that produced LeBron James. All of the major services list him as a three-star prospect. He is ranked No. 161 nationally and No. 41 nationally as a shooting guard by 247Sports.com. ESPN.com ranks him as the No. 40 shooting guard in the country. Last season, Hudson helped guide the Irish to the Division III Ohio state finals, when he averaged 15 points, five rebounds and three assists as a junior. He transfered from St. Benedictine in Richmond before his junior year.

“Jalen is another young man that comes to us from a very good basketball program, St. Vincent-St. Mary’s, the same program that produced LeBron James,” Johnson said. “He is a versatile player that can play either guard position. He is a strong, athletic player that can get to the basket and shoot the deep three and has the potential to be a very good defensive player. He’s played against top competition all of his high school career.”

Lang is a 6-7, 190 lbs. wing from Mobile, Ala., where he plays for McGill-Toolen Catholic High School. He averaged 17.1 points and 4.9 rebounds per game, leading the Yellow Jackets to a 25-7 record and the South Regional final last season as a junior. He was a first-team Class 6A All-State selection. He is no stranger to the ACC, as his father, Antonio Lang, played at Duke from 1990-94, played professionally in the NBA and overseas and is currently a head coach for a professional team in Japan.

“T.J. has a great basketball mind, being the son of a former NBA player and professional coach,” Johnson said. “He is a skilled three-point shooter with size. He can really shoot the ball. He projects as a small forward.”

This signing class will enroll at Virginia Tech in the summer of 2014.
