Virginia Tech opens the 2013-14 men's basketball season in Cassell Coliseum on Saturday, Nov. 9 at noon against USC Upstate. This is the opening round of the Coaches Vs. Cancer Classic.

About Today’s Game

Today is the season opener for both schools.

The Hokies finished last season 13-19.

The Spartans were 16-17 a year ago.

Tech won the only previous meeting between the two schools, 64-53 in Cassell Coliseum in 2010.

Gone Green

The Hokies will begin the post-Erick Green era today. Green, the 2013 ACC Player of the Year, led the nation in scoring last season.

What We Return

The Hokies return 52.3 percent of their scoring and 81.8 percent of their rebounding from last year.

Beginning the Season

The Hokies are 9-0 in season openers and also in home openers since joining the ACC in 2004.

A Young Captain

James Johnson has named freshman Ben Emelogu a captain for the 2013-14 season.

Beecher Honored

Former Tech standout Bobby Beecher will be inducted into the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame on Nov. 15.

Smart Guys

Jarell Eddie and Christian Beyer were named to the 2012-13 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Men’s Basketball Team. It was Eddie’s second year on the team and the first season for Beyer.
