BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech head coach James Johnson has announced the signing of two players to National Letters of Intent for the 2013-14 academic year. Malik Mueller, a guard from Ehingen, Germany and Devin Wilson, a guard from McKees Rock, Pa., have signed to play for the Hokies beginning in Fall 2013.

Mueller, (6-3, 200 lbs.) joins the Hokies from Ehingen, Germany. Mueller was the Most Valuable Player at the 2010 Jordan Brand Classic International game in Madison Square Garden, scoring 21 points. That year, the Jordan Brand Classic International game featured college standouts Anthony Bennett of UNLV, Kevin Pangos of Gonzaga and Carmelo Betancourt of Akron. Mueller was also named the MVP of the Arby’s Classic in Johnson City, Tenn., in December, 2012, where he led his Urspring High School team to the title. Mueller averaged 8.9 points per game as a senior on a team that played an international schedule.

“I’m really excited about Malik joining the Hokie basketball family,” Johnson said. “He is a talented guard who has a mature game. At 6-3, 200 pounds, he is a strong, physical player who can score in different ways and his unselfishness allows him to create for his teammates. We are pleased to have him as a part of our basketball team.”

Wilson (6-4, 185 lbs.) is a senior at Montour High School in McKees Rocks, Pa., where he earned first team All-State by the Associated Press. Wilson was Player of the Year on the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s All-Western Pennsylvania team and was named the Pittsburgh Area Player of the Year by the Pittsburgh Tribune Review. Wilson led Montour to the WPIAL AAA title. He averaged 17.0 points per game as a senior.

Wilson is a two-sport standout at Montour. He is also considered to be a top football recruit, receiving offers from numerous Division I schools. He played in a combined five WPIAL championship games in both football and basketball.

“Devin brings a lot of intangibles to our program,” Johnson said. “He is a winning player and has toughness. At 6-4, he brings good size and athletic ability at the guard position. Devin will add much-needed depth to our back court. We are pleased to add a player of this calibur and a proven winner to our program.”

Wilson and Mueller join guards Donte Clark (6-4, 180 lbs., Charlotte, N.C.) and Ben Emelogu (6-5, 200 lbs., Grand Prairie, Texas) and posts Maurice Kirby (6-9, 235 lbs., Chandler, Ariz.) and Trevor Thompson (6-11, 210 lbs., Indianapolis, Ind.) in the class of players entering Virginia Tech in the fall of 2013. Redshirt sophomore Adam Smith (6-1, 170 lbs.) will also become eligible this fall, after sitting out last season at Virginia Tech following his transfer from UNC Wilmington.

“I am extremely excited about this incoming freshman class, plus redshirt sophomore Adam Smith,” Johnson said. “This group addresses multiple needs for our team and our attacking style of play on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor. This group has size, athleticism and basketball savvy at every position. It is a young group, but deep and talented.”
