Virginia Tech vs. NC State Game Notes

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Virginia Tech will open ACC Tournament play at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday against NC State in the Greensboro Coliseum. The game will be televised by both ESPNU and The ACC Network.

About Today’s Game

The 12th-seed Hokies are 13-18 on the season and were 4-14 in ACC play.

The fifth-seed Wolfpack are 22-9 overall and were 11-7 in ACC action.

The winner of this game will play fourth-seed Virginia tomorrow afternoon.

Wake Forest 90, Virginia Tech 79

Erick Green tied a career-high with 35 points in the loss at Wake Forest on Sunday. Marquis Rankin set a new career-high with 15 points and Jarell Eddie added 13 points for the Hokies.

Green Honors

Erick Green has been named the ACC Player of the Year by ACSMA. He becomes the first Hokie to earn the honor.

Erick Green has been named first-team All-ACC by ACSMA. He was a second team selection last season.

Erick Green leads the ACC and the nation in scoring.

Green became the 12th player in Virginia Tech history to score 1,700 career points in the Wake Forest game and set a new school record for points in a single season, with 786.

Smart Guys

Jarell Eddie and Christian Beyer have been named to the 2012-13 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Men’s Basketball team. This is Eddie’s second year on the team and the first season for Beyer.

Odds & Ends

The Hokies have played in four of the seven overtime games played this season by ACC teams. Tech defeated Georgia Tech and lost at UNC and at NC State in the only ACC conference overtime games this season.
