CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Virginia Tech lost to No. 5 Miami, 76-58, at the BankUnited Center on Wednesday night in Coral Gables. With the loss, the Hokies fall to 12-16 overall and 3-12 in ACC action, while the Hurricanes improve to 23-4 overall and 14-1 in league play.

The Hokies stayed close to the Canes through the first 12 minutes of the game, but Miami finished the final eight minutes of the first half on a 23-5 run and never trailed in the second half. Tech cut the UM lead to 15 points late in the game, but could get no closer. The Hokies outscored the Hurricanes, 39-38, in the second half.

Erick Green led the Hokies with 16 points and four assists. Robert Brown and C.J. Barksdale added 12 points each for Tech. Brown scored all 12 of his points after the intermission and Barksdale grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Shane Larkin led all scorers with 22 points and Kenny Kadji added 20 points for the Hurricanes.

The Hurricanes out rebounded the Hokies, 31-30 and shot 50 percent from the field for the game. Miami was eight of 21 from three-point territory, while the Hokies made just three, three-pointers. Miami made 22 of 30 free throw attempts, including 15 of 17 in the first half.

The Hokies return to action on Saturday night, as they host Clemson in Cassell Coliseum at 8 p.m., in a game televised by regional sports networks. The game will mark the final home game for Virginia Tech senior Erick Green, who currently leads the nation and the ACC in scoring.
