COLLEGE PARK, Md. --- Virginia Tech opens the ACC portion of its 2012-13 men's basketball schedule on Saturday, Jan. 5 at Comcast Center against the University of Maryland.
About Today’s Game
The Hokies are 9-4 on the season after losing to BYU, 97-71, Sunday in Salt Lake City last Saturday.
Maryland is 12-1 on the season after an 81-63 home win over IUPUI on Tuesday afternoon.
This is the ACC opener for each school.
BYU 97, Virginia Tech 71
Jarell Eddie scored 17 points, Robert Brown added 13 points and Erick Green scored 12 points for the Hokies.
The game was played at the Energy Solutions Arena, home of the NBA’s Utah Jazz.
Wood Out
Virginia Tech freshman forward Marshall Wood is out indefinitely after fracturing the third metatarsal in his left foot in the loss to Georgia Southern.
Green Leads the Way
Erick Green leads the ACC and is second in the nation in scoring.
Team Notes
The Hokies have just returned from their second trip west of the Mississippi River in as many weeks.
Virginia Tech returns to Cassell Coliseum on Wednesday night against Boston College for its first home game since Dec. 15.
Player Notes
In the loss to BYU, Erick Green snapped a streak in which he had scored at least 20 points in all 12 games this season, tying the school record for most consecutive 20-plus points games in a season.
Erick Green leads the ACC in scoring and Jarell Eddie is ninth in the league in scoring.
Erick Green was named to the all-tournament team of the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic last weekend.
