BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech guard Robert Brown has received medical clearance to resume all basketball-related activities following surgery to repair a fracture to the fifth metatarsal of the left foot, suffered in July during workouts.

“I am extremely excited about the return of Robert Brown,” head coach James Johnson said. “He’s been out 12 weeks and the team and Robert are all excited for him to be back. Robert is a key part of what we are trying to do this year. He gives us another scorer in the back court.”

“It will take some time for him to get up to speed as far as conditioning, but he has been doing some things on the side the last couple of weeks to prepare. He can now go live. This is a very good time to get him cleared, as we begin practice on Friday. He’ll come in the first day of practice and not miss a beat.”

Brown, a sophomore from Clermont, Fla., had surgery at Lewis Gale Hospital at Montgomery on July 13, performed by Virginia Tech team orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Marc Siegel. Brown was not able to participate in summer workouts.

Brown played in all 33 games for the Hokies in his freshman season, starting four games and averaging 22.3 minutes per game. He averaged 6.8 points, 1.9 assists and 2.1 rebounds per game in the 2011-12 season.
