Selected non-conference games also confirmed

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech has announced its Atlantic Coast Conference opponents for the upcoming 2012-13 season. This season, the ACC will play an 18-game conference slate, up from the traditional 16-game schedule previously used.

The Hokies will play home-and-home series with Maryland, Wake Forest, Virginia, Duke, Clemson, Georgia Tech and Miami. Tech will host Boston College and Florida State and will travel to North Carolina and NC State.

The ACC has announced the tentative men’s basketball schedule for the 2012-13 campaign, listing games as either a weekday or weekend contest. A weekday game could be played on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. A weekend game could be played on Saturday or Sunday.

The Hokies will host Iowa in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Tuesday, Nov. 27. Among the Hokies’ non-conference opponents are home games against Oklahoma State, VMI and Rhode Island and road games at West Virginia and UNC Greensboro in the Greensboro Coliseum, site of the 2013 ACC Tournament on March 13-16. The Hokies will also travel to play BYU in Salt Lake City. Tech will compete in the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic. The tournament will feature a pair of home games for the Hokies and then a trip to Las Vegas the week before Christmas.

The Hokies will be under the direction of new head coach James Johnson. Tech returns three starters from last season’s 16-17 team, including leading scorer and second team All-ACC selection senior Erick Green. Green will be joined by junior wing Jarell Eddie and redshirt junior post Cadarian Raines, as well as sophomores C.J. Barksdale, Robert Brown and Marquis Rankin. Freshman wing Marshall Wood joins the team after an outstanding career at Rustburg (Va.) High School.
