Green named second team All-State
Junior guard honored by VaSID

FARMVILLE, Va. – Virginia Tech junior guard Erick Green has been selected to the second team of the 2012 VaSID University Divison All-State Men’s Basketball Team, as selected by the state’s sports information directors. The Winchester, Va., native makes his first appearance on the all-state team.

Green, a 2012 second team All-ACC selection, led the Hokies in scoring, assists, steals and minutes played this season. He scored in double figures in 30 of the 31 games he played in this season. He was the only ACC player that ranked in the top 10 in ACC stats in scoring, assists, steals and field goal percentage.

Green was named to the all-tournament team of the NIT Season Tip-Off earlier this season. Green led the Hokies or tied for the lead in scoring 18 times this season. He was seventh in the ACC in scoring (15.7 ppg) and steals (41) and was eighth in field goal percentage (43.8 percent) and assists (2.8 apg). The Hokies finished the season 16-17 overall and 4-12 in ACC action.

Virginia’s Mike Scott was named Player of the Year in this year’s balloting. Norfolk State’s Anthony Evans was named Coach of the Year and Richmond’s Kendall Anthony was named Rookie of the Year.

Scott was joined on the VaSID first team by Longwood senior Antwan Carter, Norfolk State senior Kyle O’Quinn, George Mason senior Ryan Pearson, and Hampton senior Darrion Pellum. Joining Green on the VaSID second team are Old Dominion redshirt-senior Kent Bazemore (15.4 points, 6.1 rebounds), VCU senior Bradford Burgess (13.4 points, 5.0 rebounds), ODU senior Chris Cooper (10.5 points, 10.1 rebounds), and Liberty senior Jesse Sanders (12.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, 8.0 assists).

Honorable mention honors went to Anthony, James Madison senior Humpty Hitchins, William & Mary senior Quinn McDowell, Norfolk State senior Chris McEachin, and VMI junior Stan Okoye.
