Veteran "Voice of the Hokies" wins the award for the ninth time in his career

The “Voice of the Hokies” Bill Roth has been named the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association (NSSA) Virginia Sportscaster of the Year, the association announced Monday.

Roth, who lends his voice for play-by-play calls for the Virginia Tech IMG Sports Network, has now captured the top sportscaster award in the Commonwealth of Virginia for the ninth time in his career.

He’s joined this season by the Newport News Daily Press’ David Teel, who earned Virginia Sportswriter of the Year honors.

Roth, who is joined by sidekick Mike Burnop in the booth for every game, is in his 24th season as the lead play-by-play announcer of Virginia Tech football and basketball.
