Hokies practicing in advance of trip to Canada
Tech to play two basketball games in Windsor, Ont. later this month

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech men’s basketball team will play a two-game exhibition schedule August 17-18 in Windsor, Ontario. The Hokies will play two games against the host University of Windsor at in Windsor, Ontario.

“This trip to Canada is a tremendous opportunity to give our team 10 days of practice and it allows our underclassmen a chance to learn what it means to compete at the highest level,” head coach Seth Greenberg said. “I believe the practice time this trip affords us far outweighs the competition.

“I am extremely excited about this group of players. This time will allow us to better prepare this team for the upcoming season.”

The Hokies began preparations on Tuesday, Aug. 2 and will have 10 practice days prior leaving for the trip on August 16. The team will fly to Windsor, which is located across the river from Detroit, Mich.

The trip will feature games on Wednesday, Aug. 17 and Thursday, Aug. 18. The Hokies will play the University of Windsor at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday night and again at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday morning before returning to Blacksburg that night. All games will be played at the University of Windsor’s St. Denis Centre.

This will be the Hokies’ second trip to Canada, as Virginia Tech travelled to Windsor in September of 2007 for a series of exhibition games. This continues a trend of the Hokies competing outside the Continental United State. Tech defeated Seton Hall in Cancun, Mexico in Jan. 2010 and defeated Mississippi State on Paradise Island in the Bahamas last season.

Virginia Tech returns two starters from last season’s 22-12 team that finished fourth in the ACC and advanced to the second round of the NIT. The Hokies will welcome five newcomers this season and return three players who missed last season due to injury, including seniors Dorenzo Hudson and JT Thompson.
