BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech men’s basketball head coach Seth Greenberg has announced the hiring of Jeff Wulbrun as Director of Men’s Basketball Operations.
Wulbrun comes to Blacksburg following 15 years in real estate sales, development and marketing in Bloomington, Illinois. He also has been the chief operations officer of a custom home construction company for the last seven years. From 2002 through 2007, Wulbrun also served as head boy’s basketball coach at Central Catholic High School in Bloomington. At Central Catholic, he coached two Division I basketball players and two players that went on to play in the NFL.
“Jeff Wulbrun is an experienced coach and administrator,” Greenberg said. “He has coached at both the high school and collegiate levels, as well as being the president of his own corporation. He is coming back to coaching due to his passion to make a difference in the lives of young people. I expect him to have a very positive affect on our basketball operation.”
From 1993-1997, Wulbrun served as assistant basketball coach at Illinois State, under current Vanderbilt head coach Kevin Stallings. During his time at Illinois State, the Redbirds made two NIT and one NCAA appearances. Prior to working at Illinois State, Wulbrun was an assistant coach at California from 1986-1993 under Lou Campanelli. Also in 1993, he served as an scout with the Milwaukee Bucks. At California, he signed current NBA star Jason Kidd and worked with Kidd, former NBA All-Star Kevin Johnson and former NBA player Lamond Murray. The Bears made five NIT and one NCAA appearances during his time in Berkeley.
“I have known Seth for over 20 years from our time on the West Coast and I have always had the highest respect for his coaching ability, integrity and work ethic,” Wulbrun said. “It is a tremendous pleasure for me join his staff as Director of Basketball Operations at Virginia Tech. My family and I are absolutely thrilled to be moving to the Blacksburg community. I look forward to contributing to the success of the Virginia Tech basketball program in the years to come.”
Wulbrun recieved his BA in Communications from Cal State Fullerton in 1984. He and his wife, Jennie, have two children, a daughter, Kendall, 13 and a son, Jared, 11.
