BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech wing Manny Atkins has decided to transfer, following the spring semester, head coach Seth Greenberg announced today.
“Manny Atkins is as good a kid as we have had in our program for the last eight years,” Greenberg said. “It is his desire to pursue a situation that would give him a better opportunity to have a major impact. We will do everything in our abilities to assist him in that process. We wish him all the best. We will miss him as a teammate and a member of our basketball program.”
Atkins, a rising junior from Stone Mountain, Ga., appeared in 33 games this past season, averaging 4.9 points per game and 2.0 rebounds per game. He scored a career-high 16 points in the Hokies’ home win over Wake Forest on Jan. 15. He averaged 3.8 points and 1.7 rebounds for his career at Virginia Tech, playing in 56 games and making one start in his freshman season.
“I would like to thank Coach Greenberg and the coaching staff for all they have done for me during my time at Virginia Tech,” Atkins said. “ The only reason I am transferring is to find a school where I can be more of a focal point in the offense. This is a difficult decision because I will miss my teammates. I wish them and the program nothing but success in the future.”
