BLACKSBURG, Va. – Senior guard Malcolm Delaney was one of six student-athletes to be named to the First-Team 2011 VaSID University Divison All-State Men’s Basketball Team, as selected by the state’s sports information directors. The Baltimore, Md., native is one of three repeat selections to the squad, having been named to the first team his junior season and the second team his sophomore campaign. Jeff Allen also earned his first career VaSID honors as an honorable mention.

Out of the six first-team selections, Delaney averaged the most points-per-game at 18.7, totalling 637 for the 2010-11 season. As a starter in all 34 games this season, Delaney led the team in most statistical categories, including scoring (637), assists (137), steals (56) and three-point percentage (.850, 181-213). He was named first-team All-ACC, second-team All-ACC Tournament, first-team NABC All-District 2 and USBWA All-District III. Delaney leaves Tech with all-time career records in free throws made (721), attempted (853), percentage (.845), minutes played (4,688) and three-point attempts (727).

Allen, a Washington, D.C., native, joined Delaney as a starter for all 34 games this season, crashing the boards for a team-leading 330 rebounds (90 off., 238 def.), averaging 9.7 per game. He also led the team with 16 double-doubles on the season and was second behind Delaney in points with 454, good for a 13.4 average. Allen became the first player in conference history with 1,500 career points, 1,000 rebounds, 200 steals and 150 blocked shots. He leaves Tech fourth all-time in rebounds (1,111) and steals (233), and is fifth all-time in blocked shots (150).
