Garland named to 2011 All-ACC Academic Men's Basketball Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. – A pair of All-ACC selections – Duke’s Kyle Singler and North Carolina’s Tyler Zeller – headline the 2011 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Men’s Basketball Team, as announced today by Commissioner John Swofford.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.

Singler, a two-time first-team All-ACC selection, is currently fifth in the ACC in scoring (17.1), sixth in field goal percentage (.421) and 12th in rebounding (6.6). The Medford, Ore., senior enters the ACC Tournament 11th among the league’s all-time leading scorers with 2,297 points.

Zeller, a second-team All-ACC performer, leads the ACC in field goal percentage (.541) and is eighth in both scoring (14.6) and rebounding (7.1). In addition, the Washington, Ind., junior is 11th among league free throw percentage leaders (.744) and 13th in blocked shots (1.1).

Zeller and Clemson junior Tanner Smith each earned a spot on the league’s academic honors team for the third time in their respective careers. In addition, Florida State’s Luke Loucks, Duke’s Ryan Kelly and Virginia’s Will Sherrill are repeaters from last year’s All-ACC Academic team.
