GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech guard Malcolm Delaney and forward Jeff Allen have been named to 2011 All-ACC teams, as selected by members of the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association and released by the ACC Office on Monday.
Delaney, a senior from Baltimore, Md., was a repeat selection to the conference’s first team. Tech’s leading scorer, Delaney becomes the first Hokie ever named to the league’s first team twice. He received 202 points in the voting. He was a third team selection two year’s ago as a sophomore. He is joined on the first team by Nolan Smith and Kyle Singler of Duke, Jordan Williams of Maryland and Reggie Jackson of Boston College. Delaney and Singler are the only repeat first team selections. Smith was the only unanimous selection.
Allen, a senior from Washington, D.C., was selected to the All-ACC second team. Allen is second in the ACC in rebounding, third in field goal percentage and seventh in minutes played. This is his first selection to a conference post-season team, as he received 131 points. He needs one blocked shot to become the first-ever ACC player with 1,500 career points, 1,000 career rebounds, 200 career steals and 150 career blocked shots.
Allen was one of only two players in the ACC this season to earn three ACC Player of the Week awards. Delaney won the honor once, as well.
The Hokies open play in the 2011 ACC Tournament on Thursday night. Tech, the tournament’s sixth seed, will play the 11th seeded Georgia Tech at 9 p.m. in the Greensboro Coliseum.
