Allen named ACC Player of the Week
Senior forward earns honor for third time this season

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech forward Jeff Allen has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, for the week ending Feb. 27, 2011. The honor is voted on by a committee of the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association.

Allen, a senior from Washington, D.C., led the Hokies to a pair of wins this past week. He opened the week with a 17-point, eight rebound performance in a 76-62 win at Wake Forest on Tuesday. In Saturday’s 64-60 victory over No. 1 Duke, Allen scored 18 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Allen now has 43 double-doubles for his career, which is tops among active ACC players.

This is the third time this season that Allen has earned the award. He also was honored on Jan. 10 and Feb. 6. This is the fifth time this season that a Virginia Tech player has earned this honor. Malcolm Delaney won on Nov. 29 and Erick Green won on Jan. 24. This marks the fourth time in Allen’s career that he has garnered this award. Maryland’s Terrell Stoglin is the ACC Rookie of the Week this week.

Allen currently is second in the ACC in rebounding. He is the leader among active ACC players in career rebounds and steals and is second in career blocked shots and fourth in career scoring. Allen’s four awards makes him the leader among active ACC players in earning the honor.

The Hokies return to action on Tuesday night, as they host Boston College for Senior Night. The game is set for a 9 p.m. tip-off on ESPNU.
