ESPN College Game Day is coming to Cassell Coliseum
Full day of Hokie events being planned

Virginia Tech will host Duke on Feb. 26, 2011, in Cassell Coliseum and the ESPN College GameDay, Driven by State Farm crew will be on hand for a day full of college basketball excitement. Admission is free as a ticket is not required to attend the ESPN College GameDay broadcast. Seating will be general admission and doors on the North and West sides of Cassell Coliseum will open at 8:30 a.m. The live national broadcast airs from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on ESPNU and continues from 11 a.m. to Noon on ESPN.

The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a free t-shirt stating “It’s A Great Day To Be A Hokie” courtesy of State Farm. Also one lucky student in attendance will have the chance to shoot a half court shot to win $18,000! For everyone who attends the broadcast, State Farm will donate $1 to Virginia Tech’s Athletics Department, with a potential contribution of more than $10,000. The Athletics Department will use donations to help increase student involvement in campus athletics.

“We are excited and honored to be selected by ESPN to be part of their College GameDay,” head coach Seth Greenberg said. “It is the next step as we continue to build our brand and create a national profile for our program.”

“It is a reflection of our community, season ticket holders and students and their passion and ownership in our program. ESPN recognizes that Virginia Tech’s environment is second-to-none in college basketball. I have no doubt that the Hokie Nation will come out in full force and show the nation the special atmosphere we have here at Virginia Tech.”

Fans will be allowed to bring banners, signs and flags to the College GameDay broadcast but all items will be screened prior to entering Cassell Coliseum. Due to athletics department policy, these items will not be permitted for the actual game later that evening. College GameDay will feature show host Rece Davis with analysts Jay Bilas, Digger Phelps, Hubert Davis and Bob Knight.

  • Baseball vs. Niagara (DH) @ 1 p.m., English Field
  • Lacrosse vs. George Mason @ 1 p.m., Thompson Field
  • ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Rector Field House
  • Men’s Basketball vs. Duke @ 9 p.m., Cassell Coliseum, MAROON MONSOON
