Petty earns second team All-American honors Thursday
Freshman adds another accolade to cap fine 2018 season

BLACKSBURG – Paige Petty has been named to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association’s second team as announced by the IWLCA Thursday afternoon. Petty, the Hokies’ leading goal scorer becomes the first Hokie to earn All-American honors since 2000.
The second team includes; Petty, Erin Barry (Penn), Madison Carter (Penn State), Cassie Ekstrom (UConn), Brooke Gubitosi (Stony Brook), Haley Hicklen (Florida), Ally Kennedy (Stony Brook), Darby Kiernan (Colorado), Kelsey Murray (Stanford), Sheila Nesselbush (Northwestern), Lindsey Ronbeck (Florida, Kyla Sears (Princeton), Caroline Steele (Maryland), Cara Trombetta (Florida) and Taylor VanThof (Loyola).
Petty has already been named first team All-ACC and an IWLCA first team All-South region member after scoring 56 goals and 65 points during the 2018 season, both team highs. The Bernardsville, New Jersey native led the ACC in goals scored during conference play tallying 25 in her first season.
Her goal at the 22:45 mark in the first half against Georgetown on May 11 was the program’s first in the NCAA Championships as the Hokies would go on to win 13-10 to advance to the Second Round of the tournament.
