Hokies continue record setting season Saturday, defeating rival Virginia on Senior Day

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech lacrosse team celebrated the careers of eight young women Saturday in a pregame ceremony in Lane Stadium. After the final whistle, they celebrated a 16-12 victory over rival Virginia as the Hokies defeated their in-state rival for the first time since the 2012 season.

The win also served as the 12th victory of the season, setting a new program record.

With the result, Tech earned the 3 seed in the upcoming ACC Tournament, while Virginia dropped to the 4 seed.

Behind seniors Marissa Davey and Meagh Graham, Tech was able to dig itself out of a three-goal deficit in the first half. Davey scored five points on the afternoon, including the game winner as part of a 5-1 run late in the second half. She also provided three assists.

Graham, who lined up against her younger sister Halle, earned the win in goal, making 10 saves. She also caused a turnover and grabbed five ground balls.

The Hokies will matchup with the 6 seed, the Duke Blue Devils on Thursday, April 26 at 8 p.m. from Koskinen Stadium on the campus of Duke University.

In the regular season meeting, Tech took care of Duke 17-14 at home in the Indoor Practice Facility. Tristan McGinley led all scorers with five goals and Paige Petty added four of her own as the Hokies got their second consecutive victory of the Blue Devils.
