Lacrosse program adds Missy Jaworski to staff

Coach Sung, Hokies welcome Jaworski as volunteer assistant coach to Blacksburg

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech head coach John Sung announced the addition of Missy Jaworski to the staff on Tuesday as a volunteer assistant coach. Jaworski brings a wealth of experience from her time as a student-athlete as well as the opportunities she has had to coach women’s lacrosse up and down the east coast.

"I want to thank the whole staff here, Coach Sung, Gregg Gebhard and Amanda Shimp for giving me the opportunity to join the staff and help develop this program,” Jaworski said. “Virginia Tech is a special place, and this coaching staff has only begun to take the Hokies’ women's lacrosse team to their full potential. I am excited to be a part of a program that’s reaching new heights."

Jaworski most recently spent time with Hartford University, helping the Red Hawks’ program in its inaugural year.

Jaworski served as the head coach at Wells College in Aurora, New York for two seasons, prior to the move to Hartford. The Express won four games in her first season in 2016 and had two players earn all-conference recognition, including the NEAC's Rookie of the Year and first-team selection Mackenzie Maloney. Wells had three players earn all-conference honors following the 2017 season.

Prior to her time at Wells, Jaworski served as a graduate assistant coach at Lincoln Memorial University. At Lincoln Memorial, Jaworski assisted head coach Caitlyn Corace in the institution’s first-ever varsity women’s lacrosse season. She assumed recruiting, game planning and other administrative responsibilities for the Railsplitters.

Alongside her responsibilities at Lincoln Memorial, Jaworski also served as an Ambassador for Legacy Global Sports, coordinating and directing high school tryouts in the Tennessee and Carolinas regions for the national Brine Lacrosse tournament. She also served as a club lacrosse coach with LaxManiax, one of the premier girls’ club lacrosse teams in the southern region.

Jaworski began her coaching career at Allen D. Nease High School in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida where she took over the girl’s program in 2012. In her first season at Nease the Panthers went 7-9 before winning 11 games in 2013 and finishing as runners up in the District Tournament. Jaworski managed all aspects of the program while helping five of her nine senior student-athletes go on to play collegiate lacrosse.

A native of Jamesville, New York, Jaworski began her collegiate career at Binghamton University before transferring to Jacksonville University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 2012

During her career, Jaworski made appearances in 34 games while scoring 16 goals and five assists for 21 total points, while collecting in 13 draw controls.
