BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech lacrosse teams travels to Harrisonburg, Virginia for a tilt against in-state foe and eighth ranked James Madison on Wednesday First draw is at 4 p.m. with radio coverage available through MadiZONE HD SportsNet.
The Hokies (0-1) opened up the season with an 11-5 loss to then No. 8 Southern California on Saturday afternoon. Tech battled but was not able to overcome the 5-0 first half lead that the Trojans had built up.
Tech got two goals apiece from senior Tristan McGinley and freshman Paige Petty, one of three newcomers to start. Mary Claire Byrne scored the first goal of the season from a free position opportunity.
James Madison (1-0) defeated then No. 3 North Carolina in a double overtime thriller in their season opener Saturday. Elena Romesburg and Kristen Gaudian each scored five goals in the win and Katie Kerrigan dished out four assists on the day.
The series: The Hokies and Dukes have met 15 times, with the Dukes winning each game. In last season’s contest in Blacksburg, the Hokies fell to by a score of 9-6 at Thompson Field. Zan Biedenharn and McGinley each scored three points for Tech.
Next up: The Hokies return home on Saturday, Feb. 17 to face Old Dominion at 3 p.m. from the Indoor Practice Facility.
In last season’s contest, The Hokies defeated the Monarchs 19-6 at the Indoor Practice Facility. McGinley scored five goals to lead Tech while Emma Harden, Biedenharn and Kristine Loscalzo each added three scores on the afternoon.
The Hokies will wear pink uniforms for their annual Breast Cancer Awareness game.
