Sung announces captains for 2018 season
Four upperclassmen set to lead Tech

BLACKSBURG – Second year head coach John Sung announced the program’s captains for the upcoming 2018 season on Friday. Meagh Graham, Mary Claire Byrne and Tristan McGinley will reprise their roles from a season ago, while Kelly Glatthorn was selected by her teammates to help lead the program.

The quartet has plenty of playing experience, starting a combined 137 games and scoring 125 points in their careers.
Graham, a graduate student, set the program record for goals against average a season ago at 9.64, anchoring a defense that helped the Hokies win 11 games for the first time since 1999.
Byrne is a redshirt-junior from McLean, Virginia who led the ACC in caused turnovers in 2017 with 37. The midfielder also tallied 11 goals and five assists, while picking up 34 ground balls.
McGinley, a 2017 Tewaaraton Award Watch List nominee is the leading scorer to return in 2018, scoring 50 goals a season ago while adding seven assists. The Hokies’ designated draw-taker, McGinley won 95 draw controls last year, a program record.
A senior from Norristown, Pennsylvania, Glatthorn started all 19 games in 2017. A player who can play midfield or defense, Glatthorn won 45 draw controls on the season, while also grabbing 35 ground balls and causing 24 turnovers. She also scored five points from one goal against Delaware and four assists.
Glatthorn was recently selected by the Philadelphia Force of the United Women’s Lacrosse League in the 2018 College Draft.
The Hokies open the 2018 season on Feb. 10 at home in the Indoor Practice Facility against USC.
