Pair of Hokies selected in UWLX 2018 College Draft

Glatthorn, Davey look to extend lacrosse careers beyond 2018 season

BOSTON — More than sixty female athletes were chosen Wednesday night in the United Women’s Lacrosse League’s 2018 College Draft, ushering the next wave of stars into the first professional lacrosse league for women.

Overseen by league General Manager Kristan Ash, the UWLX draft featured General Managers and Head Coaches from the Baltimore Ride, Boston Storm, Long Island Sound and Philadelphia Force making selections across 18 rounds.

The first overall pick – owned by Boston as the result of an off-season trade – saw Stony Brook star attacker Kylie Ohlmiller selected as the top player in the draft.

“Season Three is going to be a really exciting year for the league,” said Boston Storm General Manager Andrew Fink.

“When you look at the level of talent coming out of college, it definitely speaks to an even higher level of play moving forward for the UWLX. You can expect the league’s four teams to build really strong rosters for 2018. We are certainly looking forward to it.”

Nearly 30 different colleges and universities were represented in the draft.

Kelly Glatthorn was selected 47^th by the Philadelphia Force and Marissa Davey was chosen 52^nd by the Long Island Sound.

A senior from Norristown, Pennsylvania, Glatthorn has played in 40 career games for the Hokies, making 29 starts. In 2017, she started all 19 games. A player who can play midfield or defense, Glatthorn won 45 draw controls on the season, while also grabbing 35 ground balls and causing 24 turnovers. She also scored five points from one goal against Delaware and four assists.

For her career, Glatthorn has 10 points, 41 ground balls, 49 draw controls and 28 caused turnovers.

Davey, in her second year in Blacksburg, started all 19 games in 2017, scoring 44 points from 32 goals and 12 assists. The midfielder also grabbed 25 ground balls, 15 draw controls and causes 12 turnovers on the season.
