Hokies fall at Virginia amidst rain in regular season finale

Tech turns attention towards ACC Tournament in Richmond

The No. 19 Virginia Tech lacrosse team fell to No. 16 Virginia 6-5 Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Hokies to 11-7 on the year and 2-5 in conference play. Virginia moves to 10-7 and 4-3.

The game lacked any rhythm as both teams struggle to keep their feet on the wet playing surface. The six combined goals at halftime were the fewest in a Virginia Tech game this season.

The Cavaliers were led by two goals and an assist from Sammy Mueller and another two goals from Besser Dyson. In goal, Rachel Vander Kolk made 12 saves to preserves the win, Virginia’s third straight.

Tech was led by three goal-scorers, Emma Harden, Tristan McGinley and Zan Biedenharn. Defensively, the Hokies turned in a solid performance led by juniors Kristen Kohles’ four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Kelly Glatthorn also forced two turnovers and grabbed three ground balls. Meagh Graham, made seven saves on the afternoon.

Following the conclusion of Saturday’s ACC play, the bracket was announced for the upcoming ACC Tournament. The competition will be played April 27-30 at Richmond’s Sports Backers Stadium. Virginia Tech earned the seven seed and will play second-seeded Syracuse on Thursday April 27.
