Tech eclipsed in overtime 12-11

Hokies force extra period late, fall short on the road

The No. 15 Virginia Tech lacrosse team fell to No. 11 Syracuse Sunday afternoon 12-11 in overtime. Marissa Davey led Tech with three goals on the afternoon, while Emma Harden, Kristine Loscalzo and Tristan McGinley each added two goals. Tech falls to 11-5 on the season and 2-3 in ACC play. Syracuse moved to 10-4 and 4-1.

“Meagh Graham played great in goal again,” said John Sung. “She kept us in the game with those saves.”

Graham made 10 saves on the afternoon, including six in the second half as Syracuse went on a run to try and take control of the game. Tech led 6-4 at the half and scored the opening goal of the second period before a 6-2 run down the stretch gave the Orange a lead with six minutes to play.

Davey scored a goal to bring the lead down to one and Taylor Caskey equalized with four seconds on the clock, forcing overtime.

“Taylor scored that goal at the end,” said Sung. “For a freshman she’s been great, her and Izzy behind the goal controlled play.”

In the overtime period, Syracuse won the draw control and won a free position opportunity. Mary Rahal, converted the chance, winning the game for the Orange. Syracuse was led by Emily Hawryschuk’s five goals and Devon Parker’s three scores.

Next up for the Hokies is a game at No. 12 Notre Dame on Saturday, April 15. First draw is set for 1 p.m.
