Hokies return to Thompson Field for tilt with Tribe

BLACKSBURG- The Virginia Tech lacrosse team returns home to Thompson Field Saturday for a 1 p.m. match against the William and Mary Tribe. Tech enters the game with a No. 12 ranking, its best in program history.

The Hokies (9-2, 2-0)
Tech enters Saturday’s contest on a three-game winning streak, its second best of the season. Last Saturday, Tech defeated Delaware on the road 15-7. Kristine Loscalzo scored four times to pace the Hokies, and Tristan McGinley and Emma Harden each added three goals to help the Hokies to the best start in program history.

Several Hokies are on pace for career seasons and rank impressively in numerous statistical categories. McGinley ranks second in goals with 35 and sixth in points at 41. Loscalzo’s 27 goals are good for 13th, while Zan Biedenharn’s 36 total points ranks 13th.

Defensively, Meagh Graham owns a 7.52 goals against average, good for fifth nationally. Mary Claire Byrne causes 2.56 turnovers per game, the 10th best mark in the country.

The Tribe (3-2, 0-0)
William and Mary lost to ODU on Wednesday afternoon by a score of 13-10. Abby Corkum led the Tribe with a three-goal effort and Lindsey Jenks added two goals and an assist.

The Series
Virginia Tech is 2-6 all-time against William and Mary. In last season’s contest in Williamsburg, the Hokies lost 9-10 in overtime. Loscalzo and McGinley each had two goals to lead the team. Tech is 2-2 in games against William and Mary played in Blacksburg.

Next up: The Hokies are back in action on Friday at 4 p.m. for a game at Campbell. It is Tech’s final non-conference opponent before ending the season with five straight ACC games.
