BLACKSBURG- The No. 19 Virginia Tech lacrosse team play host to Elon on Wednesday at 4 p.m. The game will be contested at the Indoor Practice Facility, due to impending thunderstorms in the Blacksburg area. The game will be broadcast of HokieVision Live.
The Hokies (6-1, 1-0)
Tech enters the game Wednesday on a four game winning streak, the programs first since February of 2011. The Hokies moved up one spot in this week’s poll, occupying the No. 19 spot, the best in program history.
The Hokies are led up front by Tristan McGinley’s 25 goals, good for second nationally. She also is fourth in points with 31 and ranks in the top 25 of four other categories. Zan Biedenharn, Kristine Loscalzo and Taylor Caskey have also been dynamic in the attack leading Tech to have the ninth best scoring offense in the nation at 16.00 goals per game.
Defensively, the Hokies are led by Meagh Graham’s 6.70 goals against average, eighth best nationally. As a team Tech has the fourth best scoring defense allowing just 6.14 goals per game.
On Saturday, Tech won a pair of home games. The Hokies beat Old Dominion 19-6 before defeating Radford by a score of 20-2. Biedenharn had 11 points on the day to lead the Hokies with six goals and five assists, including a career-high five in the win over Radford.
The Phoenix (4-1, 0-0)
Elon is 4-1 on the season, with that one loss coming to No. 9 Notre Dame on Thursday. The Phoenix have also played the University of Virginia from the ACC. Elon defeated No. 13 Virginia 11-10 on an Abby Godfrey goal with one second remaining in the game.
The Phoenix are led by Stephanie Asher’s 18 goals on the season. Sloane Kessler and Shannon Horan have added 13 goals and 17 assists for Elon who averaged 12.00 goals per game.
The Series
This is the second meeting all-time between Virginia Tech and Elon. In the first meeting in 2014, Tech came away with a 17-7 victory. Meagh Graham made three saves on the afternoon and was credited with the win.
Next up: The Hokies travel to Durham, N.C. to face the Duke Blue Devils in ACC play Saturday. The game will be contested at 1 p.m. at Koskinen Stadium.
