Hokies to play two games on Saturday

BLACKSBURG- The Virginia Tech lacrosse team welcomes two in-state opponents to Blacksburg on Saturday when they play ODU at 1 p.m. and Radford at 7 p.m. The game against Radford is Tech’s annual pink match.

The Hokies (4-1, 1-0)
Tech enters the weekend with a No. 20 ranking. On Wednesday, the Hokies traveled to Lynchburg, Va. for a tilt against the Liberty Flames. Taylor Caskey led all Hokies with six points (two goals, four assists), while Kristine Loscalzo poured in a game-high four goals as Tech won 15-2. Meagh Graham earned another victory in goal making four saves on the afternoon

Tristan McGinley is among the ACC’s leaders in goals per game (fifth), points per game (sixth) and draw controls per game (fourth). She has 17 goals and five assists on the season for 22 points, which ranks sixth nationally.

Freshman Taylor Caskey, has been a bright spot for the Hokies. She has scored at least one point in each of her first five collegiate games, including 10 in the last two outings. She leads the Hokies with eight assists on the season which is good for 15th nationally

Virginia Tech is 7-3 all-time against Old Dominion. Last year, ODU won a 10-7 contest in Norfolk.

The Hokies and Highlanders played for the first time last season. Tech won that game 17-2.

The Monarchs (2-0, 0-0)
ODU comes into the game with a 2-0 record after defeating VCU 10-7 and Campbell 11-10 on Saturday. The Monarchs are led by junior attacker Cydney Tutchton’s five goals on the season.

The Highlanders (1-1, 0-0)
Radford is 1-1 on the young season. The team fell to Saint Francis 15-10 before defeating LIU Brooklyn on Wednesday 16-10. They are led up front by Colleen O’Connell She has nine points (four goals, five assists) on the season.

Next up: Tech plays host to Elon on Wednesday, March 1 at 4 p.m. The game will be contested at Thompson Field.
