LYNCHBURG- The Virginia Tech lacrosse team defeated Liberty 15-2 in rainy Lynchburg on Wednesday. It was the team’s first road appearance of the season.

The Hokies led from the opening minute when Marissa Davey scored in just 56 seconds. Zan Biedenharn doubled the advantage a minute later, and Tech never looked back.

“We got up on them pretty quick,” Sung said. “The teamwork was fantastic. We had eight assists on 12 goals in the first half. We put a lot of time getting ready for their zone today. I told them to push the ball in transition which led to some good chances.”

The Hokies shared the ball well, totaling a season-high nine assists on the afternoon. Taylor Caskey was the lynchpin in the attack, dishing out four assists. She also scored twice herself, for a career-high six points on the afternoon.

Kristine Loscalzo led six Hokies who found the back of the net Wednesday with another four goal output, bringing her season total to 14. Biedenharn had three goals and an assist, while Marissa Davey, Tristan McGinley and Emma Harden each contributed two goals.

Tech controlled the game through the midfield, winning 14 of 18 draws in the game. Kelly Glatthorn had a game-high six draw controls. McGinley and Loscalzo each controlled two for the Hokies who forced Liberty into 19 turnovers.

Meagh Graham collected another victory in goal for the Hokies who have won consecutive games for the second time on the young season. Tech allowed just 11 shots all afternoon, with a season-low two ending up in the back of the net. Graham made four saves and reserve Sydney Gagnon finished out the game in goal.

“We got some other kids playing time which was good for their development,” Sung said.

The Hokies return home for two games on Saturday at the Indoor Practice Facility. At 1 p.m. Tech plays Old Dominion and at 7 p.m. Radford squares off with the Hokies.
