Hokies welcome Boston College for league tilt

BLACKSBURG- The Virginia Tech lacrosse team is set to play the first ACC game of the 2017 season Saturday against the Boston College Eagles at the Indoor Practice Facility. First draw is at 11:30 a.m.
The Hokies
Tech is coming off a narrow defeat in midweek against the JMU Dukes. The loss was the first of the season for the Hokies.
The score was tied at the halftime break 4-4. Virginia Tech came out in the second half and took the lead through a Marissa Davey goal with 21:36 left on the clock. From there, JMU went on a run aided by man-up opportunities to score four straight in the game and ultimately earn a 9-6 victory.
Zan Biedenharn was a bright spot for the Hokies, scoring three goals on just four shots, bringing her season tally to seven. Tristan McGinley found the back of the net once again, scoring one goal and providing two assists. The defensive unit performed well once again, forcing JMU into 20 turnovers, a season-high. Meagh Graham was outstanding in goal for Tech, making 12 saves, while also corralling six groundballs and causing one turnover.
The Eagles
Boston College won against Boston University, last time out 13-11. Sam Apuzzo tallied six goals, three of which coming from free position opportunities. The Eagles have already started ACC play, losing to #5 Syracuse on Feb. 11 by 10 goals.
On the season, Apuzzo leads three players in double figures in points with 24 (12 goals, 12 assists). Other dangerous attackers for the Eagles include Tess Chandler (8 goals, 8 assists) and Kate Weeks (14 goals, 1 assists). In goal, coach Acacia Walker has used a two goalie system. Zoe Ochoa has started all four games, earning a record of 2-1, while Lauren Daly has also played in every game and has registered one win on the season.
The series
Virginia Tech trails the all-time series 4-13. Last season the teams met in Chestnut Hill in a game that saw the Eagles come away with a 15-10 victory. Current Hokies Tristan McGinley and Kristine Loscalzo each scored one goal. Boston College has won each of the last seven meetings in the series.
