Hokies start season at home versus Gardner-Webb

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech lacrosse team starts the 2017 season on Wednesday at the Indoor Practice Facility. Game time is set for 4 p.m. against Gardner-Webb. Admission is free.

The Hokies
Virginia Tech opens the season under the direction of first year head coach John Sung. The Hokies were picked to finish eighth in the ACC this season, the most talented league in the country. Returning to the lineup this season are attackers Kristine Loscalzo and Tristan McGinley who last season combined for 66 points, including 56 goals. The defense is anchored by senior Meagh Graham in goal who has the experience of 35 career starts.

The Runnin’ Bulldogs
The Bulldogs open the season coming off of a 4-13 season that saw them finish seventh in the Big South Conference. The team has been selected in the preseason to finish in eight position in 2017. Gardner-Webb is led by preseason All-Conference selection Amanda Steinmuller. The junior midfielder accounted for 32 points a season ago (28 goals, 4 assists).

The Series
Virginia Tech holds the series lead at 2-0. Last season when the teams met in Boiling Springs, N.C. the Hokies won 18-1. Tristan McGinley had four goals and three assists to lead the Hokies.

Up Next: Virginia Tech is back at home on Saturday, Feb. 11 for a game against Davidson. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
