Hokies announce their 2017 slate
Tech will host 10 opponents in Blacksburg

BLACKSBURG- The Virginia Tech lacrosse team lead by Head Coach John Sung announced their 2017 schedule on Friday.
“We’re looking forward to getting this season started,” said Sung. “I have hope for the future of this program and I think the beginning of this schedule will prepare us for our tough ACC games. I am excited for our fans to see the progress that we have made and the new brand of lacrosse we have.”
The Hokies will host ten teams in Blacksburg this spring including Gardner-Webb, Davidson, James Madison, Boston College, Old Dominion, Radford, Elon, William & Mary, North Carolina and Louisville.
The home schedule is highlighted by the reining National Champions, North Carolina, on March 28. Three of the ten home games are ACC opponents.
The away schedule for Tech includes Liberty, Duke, George Mason, Delaware, Campbell. Syracuse, Notre Dame and Virginia. Four of the eight away opponents hail from the ACC.
Eight of the 2017 opponents reached the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Tournament last season. Virginia, James Madison, Boston College, Louisville and Old Dominion competed in the First Round. Duke advanced to the Second Round while Notre Dame advanced to the Quarterfinals. Syracuse and North Carolina advanced onto the Semifinals with UNC winning it all.
The NCAA Women’s Lacrosse RPI, updated last on June 9, had eight of the Hokies’ 2017 opponents in the Top 25. Virginia Tech was slated at No. 60.
Sung debuts his 2017 team on February 9 against Gardner-Webb at 4 p.m. in the VT Indoor Practice Facility.
