No. 11 Virginia tops Virginia Tech in Commonwealth Clash, 14-7
Tech will be back in action on Thursday at the ACC Tournament

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech lacrosse team dropped its regular-season finale on senior night to No. 11 Virginia, 14-7.

Kristine Loscalzo scored a team-high four goals for Tech while Amanda Uliano had two goals. Colleen Ward also scored for the Hokies. Hannah Sieger tied a career-high with 10 saves. Prior to the game, the Hokies honored their five seniors in Gracee Hendrix, Kelsey Allen, Jessi Thon, Meghan Macera and Sieger.

For the contest, Virginia had a 17-15 advantage in ground balls and outshot Tech 40-17. Tech went 3-of-6 on free positions while the Cavaliers went 3-of-7. The Hokies only had 13 turnovers while Virginia committed 14. Tech went 9-of-11 on clear attempts while the Cavaliers were 11-of-12.

The Hokies opened the game quickly with goals from Loscalzo and Ward to take a 2-0 lead with 24:52 remaining in the first half. The Cavaliers answered and scored seven-straight goals to take a 7-2 lead with 10:27 left in half. During the run, Macera received two yellow cards. Tech scored the last goal of the first half as Uliano scored with 3:18 left in the half.

Virginia opened the second half scoring six of the next seven goals to take a 14-4 lead with 4:56 remaining. The Tech goal during the stretch came from Loscalzo.

The Hokies closed the game scoring the final three goals as Loscalzo scored two and Uliano scoring the final goal with 17 seconds remaining to make the score 14-7.

The 2016 Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Lacrosse Championship will be hosted by Virginia Tech and held in Lane Stadium on Thursday, Friday and Sunday. Virginia Tech will play on Thursday afternoon with the time and opponent to be officially announced after the conclusion of the remaining ACC contests on Saturday.
