NEWTON, Mass. - The Virginia Tech lacrosse team got a career-high five goals from Meghan Macera but couldn’t overcome No. 15 Boston College on Saturday afternoon in a 15-10 loss.

After trailing 8-2 with 13:23 remaining in the first half, Tech outscored the Eagles 5-2 over the next 16:36 of game time to cut the deficit to just 10-7 with 26:47 left in regulation. During the run, five different Hokies scored. Tech kept it close as the two teams traded goals to before Macera scored an unassisted goal to get the Hokies to within 11-9 with 19:41 left.

Tech held Boston College scoreless for a span of 13:40 during that span before the Eagles got a goal from Caroline Margolis that sparked three unanswered goals and gave BC a 14-9 lead with 3:34 left in the game.

The Hokies led the Eagles in ground balls 14-7 and the team went 14-of-14 on clear attempts. The Hokies only turned the ball over 10 times while Boston College turned the ball over 11. Boston College had a slight advantage in shots at 26-20 and a 23-4 edge in draw controls.

Macera had five goals on seven shots. Jessi Thon scored two goals and had an assist. Kristine Loscalzo, Zan Biedenharn and Tristan McGinley each scored once for Tech. Kelsey Allen and Haley Lukefahr each had a team-high three ground balls and Kristen Kohles had a team-high two caused turnovers. Hannah Sieger had seven saves in the cage.

Boston College jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with 23:36 left in the first half. Tech scored two of the next three goals to make the score 4-2 in favor of the Eagles before they scored four-straight to make it 8-2 in the first half.

The Hokies will host Virginia for senior day in the regular-season finale at 7 p.m. on Friday.
