CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Virginia Tech lacrosse team will play its fifth road game in six contests at No. 15 Boston College at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
The two teams met in Blacksburg last season with the Eagles taking a narrow 13-11 victory at Thompson Field. Jessi Thon, Gracee Hendrix and Colleen Ward each scored a goal in that contest.
Tech is led by Meghan Macera who ranks second in the ACC in caused turnovers per game at 2.40 and fourth in ground balls at 2.67. Hannah Sieger ranks fifth in the confernce in saves per game at 6.13. Kristine Loscalzo leads the team in goals with 26 while Tristan McGinely leads the team in assists with seven.
In their last game, the Hokies fell to No. 4 Syracuse 19-5. Macera scored a team-high three goals for the Hokies while McGinley and Loscalzo each scored once. Sieger made a career-high 10 saves in the cage for Tech. Hendrix, Macera and Sieger each had three ground balls while Macera led the team with four draw controls and three caused turnovers.
THE EAGLES
Boston College is coming off a 14-9 home win over Dartmouth on Tuesday afternoon.
The game against the Hokies is the last regular-season ACC contest for Boston College, the team closes the regular-season with games against Harvard and Johns Hopkins. Boston College is 2-3 in its last five games and 0-3 in its last three ACC games. The Eagles did beat Syracuse, Tech’s most recent opponent, 13-8 at home on Mar. 19.
The Eagles are ranked first in the conference and 32nd in the nation with a .458 free position conversion rate. The Eagles are also fourth in the ACC in points per game (16.62) and fifth in assists per game (4.46), draw controls (13.46) and ground balls (15.69).
Sarah Mannelly leads the team in all three major offensive categories as she has scored 26 goals with 24 assists for a team-high 50 points. Carolina Margolis has 22 goals and 14 assists for 36 points, good for second on the team.Defensively, Molly Erdle leads the team in caused turnovers with 25 and ground balls with 31.
In goal, Zoe Ochoa has started all 14 games and made 88 saves with a .400 save percentage. She has a 9.88 goals against average.
